I wanted to provide you an update regarding Violent crime, which members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey. As part of the Borough's plan to keep those attending our Night Time Economy safe there have been enhanced patrols over the past 2 weeks during the Freshers period.
In the early hours of Thursday 25th September, Officers taking part in these patrols sighted a male outside of KOKO's on Camden High Street where a Freshers Event was taking place, he was wearing a balaclava over his forehead and builders gloves with sticky grips, he was aged significantly older than the people attending the event, it appeared that he was circling members of the public outside the venue, when officers approached to challenge him he immediately ran off.
What followed was a foot chase of epic proportions, with officers from response, safer neighbourhoods and the special constabulary putting in a containment of the area while the male went garden hopping over back fences, when cornered he assaulted one officer by punching her to the face, after which a Taser was deployed, he has continued to try and escape assaulting another officer before eventually being detained.
Officers back tracked the route he had run and located a hammer which had been discarded under a car. He was arrested for 2 counts of assaulting an emergency worker, obstructing a constable in the execution of their duties and possession of an offensive weapon.
He has currently been bailed while forensic enquiriies to link him to the weapon are undertaken.
